Praying for Your Church Leadership

Contributor: Bishop Duke Stone

Moving through the pandemic of 2020 and the much of 2021, a new appreciation for the leaders in our local churches has certainly grown. Along with pastors, many Bible study teachers, youth, children’s and nursery workers, and various leaders of ministries have labored faithfully to maintain connection with, and minister to, the various constituents in the local church. The men and women who lead the various ministries of the local church have provided spiritual care in creative and anointed ways we would have never dreamed possible just a few years ago.

While the spiritual care they provide in cooperation with your pastor is vital, it also positions them in places of vulnerability. As James warned in James 3:1 (NLT), “…not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly.” He continues in verse 2, “We all stumble in many ways.” The added pressures of the pandemic have created more struggles and feelings of inadequacy for many leaders. These men and women need our prayers. Your participation in the various ministries of your church is important, but your prayers for the leaders of each ministry is also vital.
